Netflix Tests Short-Form Video Feature, Announces Other Platform Updates

Netflix is testing a mobile-only short-form video feed to compete with platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts. The feed, curated from “Today’s Top Picks for You,” allows users to scroll vertically through clips of original content and choose to watch the full title, save it, or share it. It will roll out globally on iOS and Android in the coming weeks as a new tab on the app homepage.

The announcement came during Netflix’s first product and tech event, where the company also revealed:

  • A generative AI-powered search tool

  • A redesigned TV homepage

  • Improved real-time recommendations, now factoring in recent views and searches

  • Navigation updates, moving “Search” and “My List” to the top of the page

  • Callout badges on titles (e.g., for Emmy wins)

This is Netflix’s second short-form experiment, following 2021’s “Fast Laughs.” The new version is more personalized and not limited to comedy. Other platforms like Tubi and Peacock have launched similar features.
