Burundi has become the latest African country to embrace SpaceX’s Starlink service, marking a significant step toward bridging the digital divide on the continent. Following in the footsteps of Zimbabwe, which recently licensed Starlink to operate, Burundi is now on the fast track to enhanced internet connectivity.

With one of the lowest internet penetration rates globally, largely due to high costs and limited infrastructure, Burundi’s adoption of Starlink is poised to revolutionize access for its population. This development will make high-speed internet more accessible, opening up new opportunities for education, business, and communication across the nation.

Burundi joins a growing list of African countries that have adopted Starlink, including Benin, Botswana, Eswatini, Ghana, Madagascar, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

In addition, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, has been proactive in expanding Starlink’s footprint across Africa. He recently met with Hon. Sam Matekane, Prime Minister of The Kingdom of Lesotho, to discuss the potential introduction of Starlink in the country. Musk has also engaged with the presidents of South Africa and Namibia, signaling that Africa is rapidly warming up to this groundbreaking technology.

As Starlink continues to disrupt the traditional telecommunications landscape, the real beneficiaries are the millions of customers across the continent who will soon gain access to affordable, high-speed internet.
